12 June 2026: Whakaue Street bore closures
Media: Rotorua Daily Post
Topic: Whakaue Street bore closures
Enquiry
Follow-up questions from yesterday's media enquiry about the two geothermal bore closures on Whakaue St.
Two more questions if I may, if that's okay?
How many neighbouring businesses are impacted?
Also, I spoke with Ambosia owner Kris Beehre who said they were given about six months' notice and he was of the view "it is what it is", however, he mad the comment it would have been nice if the council had delayed it until after winter, instead of before? Do you wish to respond to that or are you happy your statement makes it clear there's been a lead up to this.
Response
We supplied the reporter with the following response:
How many neighbouring businesses are impacted?
Three businesses were impacted by the closure of the two bores; Fat Brother, Lady Janes Ice Cream and Ambrosia.

We understand this may be frustrating for some, particularly at this time of year. However, our priority is to manage the situation safely, and we believe it’s best to act early rather than risk acting too late.
