For local civil defence emergency status updates, check for information on the homepage of this website, on our social media channels, or on the radio.
Civil defence is the concept of people working together in a community to protect themselves and others in an emergency. Emergency management (EM) is the specialist service performed by trained professionals, including Police, national, local and regional EM agencies and fire and ambulance services.
Our CDEM staff and teams help support households and communities in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies.
All territorial authorities, including Rotorua Lakes Council, have a statutory obligation pursuant to the Civil Defence and Emergency Management Act 2002 to plan and prepare for civil emergencies, such as a severe weather event or earthquake.
