Opening hours - changes to Local Alcohol Policy 2026

Rotorua Lakes Council adopted the Rotorua District Council Local Alcohol Policy 2026 on 25 March 2026 and this took effect 13 July 2026.

The Rotorua District Council Local Alcohol Policy 2026 aims to reduce alcohol-related harm in our community, such as crime, violence and health issues, by managing its sale and supply.

The Rotorua District Council Local Alcohol Policy 2026 was developed following engagement with key stakeholders and public consultation from January 2026 to February 2026.

The amendment to the final Rotorua District Council Local Alcohol Policy 2026 is outlined below:

  • From the 13 July 2026 clause 3.4.1 of the LAP 2026 will come into effect so that all off licence premises must comply with the maximum trading hours of 7:00am-9:00pm irrespective of individual licence renewal dates.
