29 May 2025: Karamu Takina springs partnership, recycling website
Media: Radio Waatea
Topic: RLC partnership with Ngati Kearoa-Ngati Tuara
Enquiry
I’m reaching out from Waatea radio to request a short pre-recorded interview [in te reo Maori] regarding the recent partnership between Rotorua Lakes Council and Ngāti Kearoa-Ngāti Tuara, which includes the return of ancestral land and joint management of Karamū Tākina Springs – a vital source of Rotorua’s water.
We’re really interested in highlighting this kaupapa and would love to speak with a reo Māori spokesperson who can kōrero about its significance – especially around the water consent, the return of whenua, and the vision to transform the pump station into a cultural space.
Response
Interviews with Mayor Tapsell and Karamū Tākina Trust chair Robyn Bargh have been scheduled for tomorrow (Friday)
