We understand a rubbish truck was involved in a serious crash on Dansey Rd this morning.

Is it a contractor to Rotorua Lakes Council and if so, can you provide a comment about what actions the council or its contractor are taking? For example, providing support to the driver.

We also have an unconfirmed report that a young child has died in this crash. Would the mayor offer a statement once this is confirmed with police?

From General Manager Infrastructure and Assets General Manager, Stavros Michael:

We were informed today by our contractor Smart Environmental that a waste collection truck was involved in an accident that has, sadly, resulted in a death.

This is obviously a very distressing matter for everyone involved and our thoughts are with those involved and their families at this time.

Smart Environmental is providing support to the driver who was involved and we have offered our support if needed.

From Mayor Tania Tapsell:

"Our hearts are absolutely broken to hear that there has been a fatality in our community. We send our love to all those involved."

Topic: Consent application for reintegration facility

Regarding resource consent application for a parolee reintegration facility in Waikite Valley:

It was said in the rural community board meeting this week the consent application will be publicly notified this week in the Post. I haven't seen it in the paper so far, can I please double check for as soon as possible when it will be notified?

I understand that what the community board was told was that public notification was expected to be this week but the date was still to be confirmed.

Timelines for these processes are always subject to change and as work on this application is still ongoing, we can’t confirm today whether notification will happen this week or not.

As soon as we can confirm, we will let you know.
