3 April 2025: abatement notice
Media: Local Democracy Reporter
Topic: Abatement notice
Enquiry
*NOTE: this is a follow up to the reporters enquiry earlier this week relating to an abatement notice issued regarding unconsented activity being undertaken by Tikanga Aroro Charitable Trust
However, I have concerns the abatement notice is circulating in the public realm, but both the trust and corrections have told me it was cancelled. I think it appropriate and responsible for the council to provide some answers here as to what has happened.
What is the council investigating?
If the notice was cancelled or withdrawn, why?
Was it made in error?
Was the whole notice cancelled or in part? Details please.
If in part, what did this cover and what were the requirements? Were these complied to and how?
Any other relevant comment or information?
I would very much appreciate some clarity here, thank you.
Response
From Group Manager – Destination Development Jean-Paul Gaston:
As noted earlier this week, an investigation is underway.
We do not intend to conduct that investigation through the media.
For the sake of clarity we can confirm that the abatement notice was subsequently cancelled. An investigation is ongoing for activities occurring on site.
We won’t be providing any more detail at this time.
