The reporter was informed that:
- 2022 refers to the 2022/23 financial year and 2023 refers to the 2023/24 financial year. Council’s financial years run from 1 July to 30 June.
- It is a reporting requirement that all Chief Executive (CE) salaries must be disclosed within each financial year. The amount for the 2023/24 financial year includes the remuneration of the current CE (who started at council in March 2024), as well as the remuneration of the previous CE who was entitled to be paid out a balance of his contract when he left in September 2023. In addition to this, a salary was paid to the acting CE before the current CE started.

RNZ requested an interview with Mayor Tania Tapsell about the upcoming contracted emergency housing motel hearings.
Response
Interview included discussion around:
- historic and current issues/concerns with these motels,
- improvements and progress made to date re reduction in number of motels, reduction in crime and antisocial behaviour, improvement in reputation of Rotorua + boost in community and business confidence,
- Council and Government commitment to continue to reduce use of motels and related issues, and importance of building more homes to reduce need for emergency housing.
