I refer to your Official Information request of 4 July 2025 for information regarding Animal Control Data on Dogs.

How many registered dogs you had in your district as at 1 May 2025.

How many dogs were impounded from 1 December 2024 - 30 April 2025 and how many of these dogs were then euthanised?
Answer:
Impounded - 525
Euthanized – 265
Question:
What were the reasons for the euthanasia (please give figures for each reason)?
Answer:
Council does not record reasons for the euthanasia, so your request is declined under section 17 (e) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act - ‘that the information requested does not exist’ .

Of the dogs released, how many were released to owners, how many to rescue organisations, and how many adopted?
Answer:
Released to owners – 165
Rehomed – 95
