Subject: Official Information request - Aquatic Centre closures for 'code browns'

I refer to your Official Information request of 21 January 2025 regarding the number of times any of the Aquatic Centre pools are temporarily closed due to “code browns” or other hygiene reasons.

Please find attached a spreadsheet showing the number of faecal incidents from October 2020 (the inception of recording the events electronically) to 21 January 2025 showing the date of the event and which pool was affected.

Below is the process that the pool operator follows when dealing with a faecal event:

Steps for dealing with a faecal incident in pool water

To mitigate faecal pool closures, the operator has swim nappies available and advises that all children under 2 years wears swim nappies. The operator also advises customers to take children to the toilet prior to swimming.
