Subject: Official Information request - Safe City Guardians

I refer to your Official Information request of 16 October 2024 regarding the Safe City Guardians and whether the Guardians who patrol the city centre during the day and then at night are contractors, and if so, how long the contract runs for i.e: start date and finish date.

Council has two types of patrols:

• The RLC Safe City Guardians are foot patrollers that work from 0800hrs to 1630hrs 7 days a week. Safe City Guardians are employed by Rotorua Lakes Council.
  • During the Safe City Campaign (1 November 2024 to 31 March 2025) the RLC Safe City Guardians will extend their roster to accommodate the Thursday Night Markets working up to 2200hrs.
• The Security Mobile Patrols that work from 0800 – midnight 7 days a week. These patrols are contracted through VR Security. The contract is for 1 year from 15 October 2024 with 2 rights of renewal of 1 year, with a maximum period of 3 years until 14 October 2027.
  • During the Safe City Campaign (1 November 2024 to 31 March 2025) the Security Mobile Patrols will extend their roster to on Thursday/Friday/Saturday to 0200hrs in the morning.
