Subject: Official Information request - Sala St cemetery reserve

I refer to your Official Information request of 19 January 2024 for the report that specified that the land at the Sala Street Cemetery proposed to have reserve status revoked is unsuitable for burials or cemetery use.

Attached is an internal document Rotorua Cemetery – Water Table Test Bore Investigation (PDF 1.8MB) undertaken on 14 August 2023.

Further response

I refer to your further LGOIMA request dated 1 February 2024 referring to a report dated prior to 13 May 2021.

A search of Council’s hard copy files has found the attached report from Opus dated 29 September 2008 (PDF 3.2MB) regarding testing of the ground on the corner of Sala Street and Te Ngae Road for a cemetery extension. (Note: page 14 is missing and not in the file).

The report shows a high water table in the majority of the holes which would make the land unsuitable for burials.
