Subject: Information request - surface water take reports
I refer to your information request of 14 July 2022 regarding water take/water conservation reports for Hemo, Waipa, Utuhina and Karamu Takina. Your request was processed under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act.
- Water take reports for the last 10 years (Annual Reports if easier)
The Excel spreadsheet labelled ‘Karamu Takina Waipa Hemo Annual Records’ (attached) has daily volumes of water abstracted for the past 10 years from each of the supplies requested. - Water Conservation Reports
Attached is the initial Water Conservation Report which was produced in 2009. The WCR is updated every 5 years as a progress report on the implementation of conservation measures identified in 2009. This was most recently updated in 2021 (attached). - Any information about proportion of use (i.e. domestic, industrial, rural) if available
Our water supplies are not universally metered. Commercial, industrial, extra-territorial, extra-ordinary, and rural properties are metered. The majority of domestic properties are not, with the exception of blocks of flats/apartment buildings.
In order to calculate domestic water use across our supplies, a sample of 365 properties are metered, but not billed. The readings from these meters is used alongside Census data to estimate domestic water use (refer to ‘Water Consumption Data’ spreadsheet attached).
Also included in this spreadsheet are calculations of non-revenue water. The below diagram from the Water New Zealand Benchmarking of Water Losses in NZ Manual shows what non-revenue water comprises.
