Local transport update
Rotorua Lakes Council would like to thank the community for their support and patience while road safety improvements have been completed or are underway.
Most crews will be taking a break from Friday 22 December and start back again Monday 8 January 2024.Waka Kotahi advises work sites will continue to pop up across the region and motorists should check Journey Planner (journeys.nzta.govt.nz) for the status of the state highway network.

Rehabilitation and safety improvements update:
- King Street - pavement rehabilitation work underway and is anticipated to be complete early 2024, weather depending.
- Vaughan Road – shared path construction underway, when complete (End of March 2024) will connect Vaughan Road from the Te Ngae Road entrance to Rotorua Forest Haulage.
- Umuroa Street - works to install stormwater drainage pipes, kerb and channels, footpath, vehicle crossings, road pavement and sealing is progressing and anticipated to be complete early 2024, weather depending.
- Dansey Road – tender for safety improvements work is out with contract awarded early 2024 and work anticipated to commence end of March 2024.
- Whirinaki Valley Road – Road rehab complete.
- Sharp Road – Rural seal extension complete.
- Yankee Road – Road rehab due to be sealed and complete before 20th of December 2023.
- Manawahae Road/Pongakawa Valley Road – some damaged sections have been repaired and the road is re-open with temporary traffic controls in place over Christmas/New Year break until crews can return to finish.
State highway update:
- SH30/Te Ngae Rd Eastern Corridor Stage 2 - multiple active work sites between Iles Rd and Ōwhata Rd with minor traffic delays expected. More information.
- SH33 Te Ngae Junction to Paengaroa - safety improvements on a section of road between Sun Valley Curves and Maniatutu Road continues. Temporary traffic management in place with minor traffic delays expected. More information.

- Lynbert Rd – courtesy crossing
- Tarawera Rd – pedestrian refuge nearest Selwyn Rd
