Council’s Active and Engaged Communities Manager Rob Pitkethley spoke to the May operational report for Community Wellbeing which highlighted a number of activities including the increasing use of the PrestoPark parking app, a busy period for Council’s venues and the importance of community technology at Rotorua Library.
The Committee also received an update on consenting numbers from District Development DCE Jean-Paul Gaston.
Mr Gaston also highlighted that a determination from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has provided Council with confidence in applying specific criteria when evaluating accommodation providers for any change of use under the Building Act.
Council decision
The Committee resolved to endorse and approve the Draft Rotorua Future Development Strategy Joint Committee’s Terms of Reference (TOR).
The Joint Committee was established to serve as a hearings panel to hear submissions and undertake deliberations for the Draft Future Development Strategy, as well as make recommendations to Rotorua Lakes Council and Bay of Plenty Regional Council for the final approval of the Future Development Strategy later in the year.
The purpose of the TOR is to set out how the Joint Committee will work together to ensure alignment and integration between the two responsible local authorities within the scope of the FDS project.
It was also confirmed that the consultation period for the Draft Rotorua Future Development Strategy (FDS) has been extended to Monday 17 July 2023 due the long weekend.
