Enquiry
I know Van Eeden Tulips near Invercargill is closing and they supply a lot of bulbs around the country, including councils.
I saw Kawerau's council decided to unplant theirs after bad weather to try and grow from those for next year. I was wondering about ours in Roto.
- Where do the bulbs from Rotorua's tulips come from?
- How many are planted each year? This year?
- What kinds are planted?
- How has this varied over the years?
- Why tulips?
- What do the bulbs cost? This year?
- Does RLC use Van Eeden Tulips? If so, what does it plan to do once it closes?
Response
Information provided by InfraCore, attributable to InfraCore’s General Manager Operations David Rose:
Where do the bulbs from Rotorua's tulips come from?
InfraCore has previously used Van Eeden Tulips but not exclusively. Next season’s bulbs will be sourced from either Fiesta or Valkplant.
How many are planted each year? This year?
About 3200
What kinds are planted?
This changes from year to year depending on what the suppliers have in stock and the overall annual planting plan. We select what suits our plan from the varieties that are available in any given year.
How has this varied over the years?
The variety has always changed from year to year. See also above
Why tulips?
This was specified by the Council many years ago and they grow well in Rotorua due to the cold climate that’s required to enable them to germinate.
What do the bulbs cost? This year?
We have a budget of $25,368 per annum for bulbs but this may not be fully used, depending on the planting plan.

Topic: Liquor licence
Enquiry
can I please ask what happened with the liquor licence application for Ambrosia by Mary Beehre?
I can't see any recent decisions on the ARLA website.
If it was declined, can you let you know how I go about getting a copy of any decision?
It's a follow up to this story.
Response
We confirmed that a hearing is scheduled with the Rotorua District Licensing Committee on 6 November 2023 to consider and decide on the application they have before them.
