Council funding available for community groups
Council’s Thriving Communities Director Kelly-Anne Panapa says the aim of the funding is to create a social base, meet local needs and make a difference in the community.
“Communities know what they need best – this fund is an opportunity to provide resources for self-help projects, which link to community outcomes. We particularly welcome projects that contribute to community safety and resilience.”
Projects funded to date include the establishment of community gardens, working bees, tree plantings, street and waterway clean-ups, free community events and the creation or improvement of communal spaces like picnic areas.
Groups do not need to be legal entities to qualify and are expected to match the funding they get with volunteer labour, donated materials and professional services or cash.
Information about the fund is available on Rotorua Lakes Council's website (Neighbourhood Matching Fund). People can also visit the Council Customer Centre on Haupapa Street for assistance, email communityfunding@rotorualc.nz or call 07 348 4199.
