By-elections needed for Rural and Lakes community boards
Nominations for by-elections needed to fill vacancies on Rotorua Lakes Council's rural and lakes community boards are now open.
The by-elections are required following the resignations of Anker Hansen from the Rotorua Rural Community Board and Stephanie George from the Rotorua Lakes Community Board due to changes in their personal circumstances.
The resignations were effective from 18 July 2023.
The Local Electoral Act requires a by-election to be held if a vacancy occurs more than 12 months before the next triennial election.
A by-election timetable has been prepared by the Electoral Officer in accordance with the Act and nominations for both positions opened on 26 July and close on 23 August, with the polling day scheduled for 19 October.
The process for a by-election is the same as for triennial elections and the by-election method will be First Past the Post (FPP).
The estimated cost to run the community board by-elections is approximately $44,000 - this is indicative only.
