Rotorua mowing schedule set to be back on track
Mowing in our district is a hot topic at the moment and Rotorua Lakes Council’s contractor, InfraCore, has been working hard to catch up on the mowing schedule.
InfraCore has now completed 99 percent of the mowing schedule that was posted online due to the growth rates seen in the region.
The usual schedule of regular mowing will then resume. This means most areas will be mowed every four and a half weeks (with the exception of high priority areas and sports fields, which are mowed more frequently) rather than approximately every six weeks as they have been done during the past couple of months due to the increased rate of grass growth and wet weather delays.
InfraCore mow 327 reserves, plus other areas in the district, and only two reserves currently remain outstanding. The total mowing area makes up 450 hectares of grass, which is equivalent to 562 Rotorua Stadium sports fields.
Rotorua Mayor Tania Tapsell, appreciates the community’s responsiveness to the mowing programme.
“I appreciate that public reserves are important to our community. It’s positive our contractors have been able to catch up on the mowing despite the crazy weather we’ve had. We’ll keep working hard to ensure our district is up to a standard we can be proud of."
Last year, New Zealand experienced its warmest and wettest winter on record according to NIWA (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research). Paired with the wet 2022/23 summer, this has contributed to significant grass growth and grounds often being too saturated to mow. This has put pressure on mowing contractors across the country.
