Inaugural Council meeting set for Friday
Rotorua’s newly elected Mayor, councillors and community board members will be sworn in at the inaugural Council meeting of the 2022-25 triennium on Friday [21 October].
A pōhiri will be held before the meeting starts.
The meeting will be opened by CE Geoff Williams and the new Mayor will then be sworn in and will preside over the rest of the meeting.
Following her inaugural speech after taking the chair, Mayor Tania Tapsell will invite each councillor and community board member to make and sign their declaration.
The meeting will include the Council affirming the appointment by the Mayor of Councillor Sandra Kai Fong as Deputy Mayor.
Friday’s meeting will also include a report overviewing key legislation elected members need to be aware of and have an understanding of as part of their roles, and they will adopt the schedule of Council meetings for the balance of 2022.

The meeting, following the pōhiri, will be held in the Council Chamber and is expected to start about 10.30am. It is open to the public to attend and will also be livestreamed so you can view live or later via Council’s YouTube channel HERE.
