Information for candidates and Pre-election Report now available online
What’s your Why?
The local election is your opportunity to help shape the future of Rotorua. You can stand for Mayor, as a Councillor on the Māori, General or Rural Ward, or as a member of the Lakes or Rural Community Boards. By being an elected member, you’ll be making a positive difference for people and communities today and into the future.
Information for Candidates
Rotorua Lakes Council has held two Candidate Information Sessions for people thinking about standing in this year's local election.
The session held on 29 July was recorded and is now available to watch on Council’s website HERE. The presentation slides from this session are also available on the website HERE.
This session was presented by Council’s DCE District Leadership & Democracy, Oonagh Hopkins and covers information about the roles and responsibilities of an elected member, the election process, campaign do's and don'ts, and how Rotorua Lakes Council represents our community and our district.
Pre-election Report
Whether you’re looking to stand as a candidate, or looking to make an informed vote in the upcoming election, the Pre-election Report is a must-read and is now available on Council’s website.
This report aims to promote public discussion and informed debate in the lead-up to the 2022 local election and includes information about the key issues facing the city, major projects, and Council's financial position.
The chief executive of each council must prepare a pre-election report, independently of their mayor and councillors, as required under the Local Government Act 2002.
