Reminder about rates invoice change
Rotorua ratepayers will receive separate rates invoices from Rotorua Lakes Council and Bay of Plenty Regional Council from July 2022.
Rates for both councils have until now been collected via a single invoice, sent quarterly by the district council, but the regional council has decided to collect its own rates from this financial year, which started 1 July 2022. This means ratepayers will pay regional council rates directly to Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
The decision was made by the regional council to give ratepayers more clarity about the work and services their regional rates contribute towards.
The timing of your four quarterly invoices from Rotorua Lakes Council will not change with first for the 2022/23 financial year to be sent out late July for payment by 20 August 2022.
Ratepayers will receive one invoice per year from Bay of Plenty Regional Council, in late August/early September for payment by 20 October.
Rotorua ratepayers who already receive their rates invoice by email will also receive their Bay of Plenty Regional Council invoices by email. Others will receive these by post.
