Weather-related update - latest

Strong winds continued for all of yesterday and late into the evening and winds a strong wind watch remains in force for the Bay of Plenty area, including Rotorua, until mid-morning today.
Further callouts to treefalls yesterday:
- 5:40pm: Stonebridge Rd – Tree on road blocking one lane. Fulton Hogan crew cleared the road. Further clean up required.
- 9:10pm: Ohakuri Rd – A large tree blocking full width of the road between Maleme Rd and the dam. Crew cleared the road but further clean-up is required and an excavator will be needed for this work
- 9:20pm: Tarawera Rd – Tree blocking both lanes near Lake Titkitapu. FENZ crew were clearing when Fulton Hogan crew arrived. The site will be checked again today to see if further clean up is required.
Contractors will have two crews checking roads for damage today and ready to respond to any additional issues if they arise.
Arrangements will be made by contractors today to complete clean-up tomorrow.

Windy conditions are having an impact on our roads with trees and power lines down so please drive carefully if you are on the road today.
MetService has recorded southerly winds averaging 41-52km/h at Rotorua Airport since midnight and expected to continue throughout today. The weather is expected to ease overnight and the for tomorrow is for winds of about 30kph.
So far today, due to the strong and gusty southeasterlies we are experiencing, the following have been reported:

Tree down on Awatea Terrace - crew are on site

Tree blocking one lane on Waikite Valley Rd - now cleared
Two trees blocking Ohakuri Road - crew are on site
Tree blocking both lanes on Kapukapu Road - now cleared
Powerline down along SH33 near Brunswick - Unison on site
Tree blocking one lane near Brunswick - crew on site
Contractors Fulton Hogan have two crews at each end of the district's roading network and will continue to monitor the weather and attend to calls as they come in. Additional resources will be sent in if required.
Fulton Hogan says at present all roads in the district are open, but motorists should drive to the conditions and be prepared for the unexpected.
