Muka Youth Prints at museum this weekend
Muka Youth Prints, Rotorua Museum 15-16 August, 2015
This weekend [15-16 August] Rotorua Museum again hosts Muka Youth Prints - a special exhibition exclusively for children aged five to 18 years.
With the key aim of inspiring an interest in art amongst children, Muka Youth Prints follows a unique concept that allows children to independently view art in an adult-free space.
The range of original lithographs, by prominent New Zealand and international artists, includes such well-known greats as John Reynolds, Gretchen Albrecht and Dick Frizzell.
The method of exhibition allows young people to develop a unique awareness of art that cannot be taught, says co-founder and director of Muka Magda Van Gils, who has been involved in the project since 1986.
By entering the room without adults, and with an opportunity to choose, young people really engage with the works of art, continues Ms Van Gils.
To make the works accessible all artworks are for sale at a uniform price of $67 each.
Muka Youth Prints is on show at Rotorua Museum on Saturday 15 August from 3pm to 4.30pm and on Sunday 16 August from 10am - 4.30pm.
