Rotorua residents own more than 11,000 dogs and terriers are the most common breed registered with Rotorua Lakes Council.
Dog registrations for the next year are now due and owners have until the end of this month (July) before penalties will apply.
In the last financial year - 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015, there were 11,195 dogs registered with the Rotorua Lakes Council.
So far during this year's registration period about 5500 have been registered so there are still about that many who need to be registered.
The 5 most common breeds registered with the council:
1 Terrier (total of 2520 registered last year)
2 Retriever (1623)
3 Collie (760)
4 Huntaway (614)
5 Greyhound (471)
