Cup of tea at table gifted 30 years ago
John Mayhew (left) and his wife Pam enjoyed afternoon tea with Mayor Steve Chadwick (right) this week, following an invitation to the local couple to acknowledge their generous donation to the city over 30 years ago.
The master craftsman and a trio of volunteers handcrafted the beautiful rimu nine-piece reception suite, located at the council Civic Centre, and gifted it to the council as part of the city's centennial celebrations in 1980.
The table includes handcarved images depicting milestone events in Rotorua's history, while the city's coat of arms features on the chairs, painstakingly stitched over nine months by members of the Rotorua Embroiderers' Guild.
