Saturday open day for three council facilities
20 November 2014
Three of Rotorua District Council's key facilities are opening their doors to the public on Saturday, 22 November.
Do you know how water gets to your kitchen tap? Have you ever wondered what happens to the waste water from your shower, laundry or toilet after it goes down the drain? And what happens to your recycling once you've dropped it at the recycling centre?
Rotorua District Council invites you to find out for yourself at Saturday's open day and guided tours of the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Headworks' primary city water source, and Resource'- the interactive classroom at the Rotorua Recycling Centre on Te Ngae Road.
Rotorua District Council Sustainability Advisor, Monica Quirke, says the open day is an opportunity to share with the local community how council manages waste, water and rubbish in Rotorua.
The day will give the public an insight into these council facilities and the opportunity to meet and talk to council staff. We'll have three very important facilities on show.
Our waste water treatment plant is a state of the art plant producing high quality discharge water, and our Headworks' water supply comes from an exceptionally high quality spring which is over 100 years old.
'Resource,' our interactive education centre, is usually only open for school group bookings so Saturday's open day is a great opportunity for locals to check out Resource' after they've dropped their recyclable at the recycling centre.
Visitors make their own way to the venues and should bring suitable walking shoes and a raincoat or umbrella
