Today's ‘Ride to Recycle’ to help keep city clean
Marcello Ojerio will be leading 'Ride to Recycle'.
Rotorua District Council's (RDC) Ride to Recycle' event is on today (11 November) as part of national Recycling Week (11 to 17 November) activities.
Participants will meet at a collection station outside Burger Fuel at The Redwood Centre on Te Ngae Road on today (Tuesday 11 November) from 12pm to 2pm, where RDC's Keep Rotorua Beautiful sustainability advisor Rose Hiha-Agnew will take registrations and distribute recycling bags and gloves to cyclists before they embark on a litter collecting trail.
Rotorua District Councillor Janet Wepa and local volunteer Marcello Ojerio will lead the troops on cycle tracks along Te Ngae Road and Puarenga Stream, before returning to the collection station to sort the recyclables from the rubbish.
Cr Wepa said she was looking forward to seeing how easy it is to stop and pick up rubbish while enjoying a leisurely bike ride.
'Ride to Recycle' is an interesting concept that I haven't tried before so I'm looking forward to it.
It's a good opportunity for locals to see how they can recycle while riding a bike, and another way people can help keep the city beautiful while getting exercise at the same time.
Five bikes with carrier baskets will be available at the collection station on a first-in-first-served basis.
People can register on the day, with the first 12 receiving a free Burger Fuel voucher.
