Liverpool band The Searchers heading for Rotorua
15 July 2014
Enduring British band The Searchers will be rocking the stage at the Rotorua Civic Theatre on Friday, August 1, as part of their Greatest Hits New Zealand Tour.
The Searchers are best known for a string of worldwide hits like Sweets for My Sweet, Needles and Pins, Sugar and Spice, Don't throw your Love Away, Love Potion No 9 and when you Walk in the Room.
Their 2014 tour celebrates 50 years since they first visited New Zealand, in 1964, the same year as The Beatles.
Like The Beatles The Searchers hail from Liverpool and, along with The Fab Four, are the most influential of the Merseybeat groups in terms of worldwide fame and popularity.
Frank Allen, frontman for The Searchers, said they loved to tour and even though they could retire tomorrow there was still a love of the stage and entertaining crowds, which kept them going.
