Polar Plunge & Fire Walk pushing locals’ boundaries
Polar Plunge & Fire Walk pushing locals' boundaries
10 July 2014
Show your spirit for living in Rotorua this winter by joining this weekend's inaugural Rotorua Polar Plunge & Fire Walk.
The event is at the Village Green on Saturday (12 July) from midday and is part of Rotorua's Fire & Ice winter festival. It supports local charities, St Chads and Waiariki Women's Refuge, during National Women's Refuge Appeal Month.
Your courage could ultimately be rewarded with a $10,000 spa pool package from HotSpring Portable Spas which is being awarded to one lucky walker or plunger. The more you plunge or walk - the more chances to win the grand prize.
Here's how it works:
Rotorua Polar Plunge
- $5 per plunge into the ice cold pool (well below zero degrees) after officially registering at the event registration. All proceeds go to St Chads Charitable Trust.
- Minimum age 14 years. Any person taking part that is 14 to 17 years must have a parent or legal guardian consent to participation in person at the event registration desk where a waiver will be signed.
- Bring your swimming attire (changing facilities provided). No onesies, birthday suits, jeans etc.
- Plunge the ice pool (submergence of one's body to the shoulders qualifies as a successful plunge), then enjoy a short warming dip in a lovely and hot HotSpring Portable Spa before collecting your official Rotorua Polar Plunge certificate and a McCafe hot beverage voucher from McDonalds Rotorua.
- Free hot soup provided by St Chads to warm you up on exit from the plunge pool enclosure.
Rotorua Fire Walk
- $5 per walk over the coals after officially registering at the event registration. All proceeds go to Waiariki Women's Refuge.
- Minimum age 14 years. Any person taking part that is 14 year to 17 years old must have a parent or legal guardian consent to participation in person at the event registration desk where a waiver will be signed.
- Prepare to walk over the two and a half metre fire in your bare feet ONLY. No socks, shoes or wooden clogs permitted walking over the fire.
- Walk the coals before collecting your official Rotorua Fire Walk certificate and a McCafe hot beverage voucher from McDonalds Rotorua.
Please bring cash to pay for your entry as EFTPOS is not available.
Finish off your day in style by bringing the family back to the Village Green for Blaze Night with traditional bonfire being lit after 6pm.
There will be live music and entertainment from the Electric Blaze Riders and other prominent local performers, culminating with a spectacular laser light show over the bonfire and a fireworks display from behind the Soundshell.
Bring your marshmallows and rug up for something unique in Rotorua!
