New Travel Channel series to share Rotorua with the world
21 May 2014
Rotorua is set to feature on RV Rampage, a new series being released worldwide next week on the Travel Channel.
The show hits New Zealand screens on Thursday 22 May when it makes its world premiere to a potential audience of 200 million.
In the show, five international teams of two, hosted by Henry Cole and Amanda Byram, undertake challenges designed to immerse them in the culture and lifestyle of New Zealand and rampage challenges' to test them mentally and physically.
RV Rampage was filmed last year in 10 locations around New Zealand. Rotorua features in episode two which airs next Thursday (29 May).
While filming here the crew visited Te Puia, Rotorua Canopy Tours, Polynesian Spa, Mokoia Island and stayed at the Rotorua Top 10 Holiday Park, filming and completing challenges at each location.
Destination Rotorua Marketing general manager Oscar Nathan says the show was a great opportunity to showcase Rotorua's unique landscapes and activities to a global audience.
Being involved in a show with an audience the size of RV Rampage reinforces Rotorua's image as a must-visit destination for any trip to New Zealand.
Such a global programme is bound to stimulate a lot of interest and desire for viewers to visit Rotorua.
Filming in New Zealand was secured through Tourism New Zealand's International Media Programme and was supported by Regional Tourism Organisations, the Holiday Parks Association of New Zealand and key sponsor, Maui.
Tourism New Zealand's Director of Trade, PR and Major Events Justin Watson says such significant international exposure over so many markets coming hot on the heels of the coverage we saw of the Royal visit in April, all serves to keep New Zealand top of mind for travellers and support Tourism Zealand's aim to increase the number of international visitors to New Zealand.
