Solid response to community awards
15 May 2014
Locals have got behind their volunteers, with 38 entries received for the Trustpower Rotorua District Community Awards.
The Trustpower Rotorua District Community Awards, run in partnership with Rotorua District Council, recognise and reward voluntary groups for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community.
Trustpower's Jess Somerville says awards help recognise people who put their heart and soul into helping out.
The generosity of volunteers and the variety of projects they lend a hand to for their local community never ceases to amaze me. Once again the Rotorua community has got behind their community, and I'm stoked that we will be celebrating so many talented, resourceful and hard working volunteers through this year's Trustpower Community Awards.
I would like to thank all of the people who put so much effort into the thirty-eight entries this year, says Miss Somerville.
The awards cover five categories:
- Heritage and Environment
- Health and Wellbeing
- Arts and Culture
- Sport and Leisure
- Education and Child/Youth Development.
Category winners receive $500, and runners-up receive $250.
The Supreme Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate, and an all-expenses paid trip to the 2014 Trustpower National Community Awards, being held in the Wellington region in March 2015.
Entries for the Trustpower Rotorua District Community Awards are currently being prepared for judging with the results to be announced and presented at a function on Monday 23 June.
