Rotorua Museum wins another national award

Rotorua Museum is celebrating yet another win - this time at the New Zealand Radio Awards on Thursday evening [8 May].
The museum, together with Mediaworks partner The Edge, won Best Direct Client Campaign' for the same-sex wedding event and promotion.
The hugely successful campaign, to host two same-sex weddings at Rotorua Museum on the day the law changed in New Zealand (19 August 2013), showcased Rotorua Museum as a great place to hold weddings and established itself a special place in history through this landmark event.
The latest award caps off a great 12 months for Rotorua Museum which has seen this dynamic team win more than five significant awards. It comes hot on the heels of the 2014 Museums Aotearoa Award for the On the Wing project, the first ever urban release of the threatened New Zealand falcon (kārearea). The collaboration between Rotorua Museum and Wingspan National Bird of Prey Centre took out the top prize for Best Museum Project' last month.
Last October Rotorua Museum also won the Hospitality and Attractions Award' at the 2013 Westpac Rotorua Business Excellence Awards. Museum director Stewart Brown said that he and his team were delighted to be recognised amongst some of the best businesses in Rotorua.
The 80-strong team of volunteer Museum guides were runners-up in the Trustpower Spirit of Rotorua Community Awards 2013. These invaluable guides are the face of the Museum and share stories of Rotorua's unique history with visitors. These guides played a huge part in being awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Award'. This award is only extended to the top performing 10% of TripAdvisor listed businesses worldwide.
Mayor Steve Chadwick says she is very proud of the creative team at Rotorua Museum who always go above and beyond to enhance the Museum experience.
Rotorua Museum director Stewart Brown said the team is constantly striving to offer a great experience for visitors through innovative displays and a wide range of changing exhibitions and events.
"They are passionate about what they do and these awards are recognition for all the hard work they put in," he said.
