Skyline Sprint Warrior entries almost sold out
12 January 2014
With the 2nd Rotorua Bike Festival just over a month away entry numbers are already well up on 2013 - and one event has almost sold out.
The Skyline Sprint Warrior, located at Skyline Skyrides on Mt Ngongotaha, was a popular highlight of last year's inaugural festival so it comes as no surprise that there's only a handful of entries left in this year's event on 21 February.
Entries to an open day on 20 February are also selling fast.
Mountain Bike Rotorua's Tak Mutu said the open day is an opportunity for those racing the Warrior to get an early look at the race course, and for other riders to sample other trails Empire of Dirt are constructing at the Skyline Gravity Park.
Another successful event from 2013, the Giant 2W Gravity Enduro, is on 22 February, featuring some of the best trails in Whakarewarewa Forest. Entry numbers for the 2W are already up on last year's event, and with the limit rapidly approaching, event organiser Neil Gellatley encourages people to enter soon if they don't want to miss out.
The 2W starts and finishes in the heart of the city, on the newly refurbished Eat Streat.
It's a competitive event and sociable, too," says Neil. You can enjoy a coffee before heading out to the forest and then a cooling beverage or two while comparing your times with your mates when you're finished.
Ibis Bike the Lake's first Summer Edition on February 16 around Lake Rotorua circumnavigate Lake Rotorua allows recreational riders to complete one lap of 42 kilometres or a 2-lap option for more competitive bikers.
Organiser Shane Hookes said he is very pleased with entries so far.
