Museum invites community to share World War I treasures
17 January 2014
As part of First World War Centenary commemorations, Rotorua Museum is inviting the community to share their WWI family treasures and stories for an exhibition running from June to September.
This Sunday (19 January), from 1pm to 3pm, Rotorua locals can bring their WWI treasures to the museum to be considered for the exhibition. Museum staff will be on hand to photograph the objects, help people find out more about these treasures, and give tips on how to care for them and digitise them so they are preserved for future generations to enjoy.
Rotorua Museum deputy director, Pamela Lovis, said staff can't wait to see what the community brings in this weekend.
"People can bring in any objects, personal items and photos that speak of WWI from different perspectives and places.
"We've already had some amazing treasures and stories shared with us - from a signaller's bugle to binoculars from the German army."
Anyone who cannot make it to Sunday's event can download a submission form from the museum website or pick up a brochure from the museum reception. Submissions will accepted until 31 January.
