Making history at Rotorua Museum
Rotorua Museum staff are excited to be hosting the historic same-sex wedding tomorrow (19 August).
Two same-sex couples will be married at the museum on the first day the law changes.
Richard Rawstorn and Richard Andrew from Christchurch, along with Rachel Briscoe and Jess Ivess from Bay of Islands, won a competition in conjunction with The Edge radio station to get married live on radio.
As part of their prize the couples have been in Rotorua since last week finalising details and meeting with local suppliers.
Rotorua Museum sales & marketing manager, Joanna Doherty, said the couples were quite overwhelmed by the beauty of the Museum when they came in to view the venue.
The exterior of Rotorua Museum will be lit up in multi-coloured lights this evening, heralding the historic occasion that will take place on The Edge breakfast show tomorrow morning.
"We're excited to see all the weeks of planning coming together. The Museum is going to look fantastic, said Ms Doherty.
Rotorua Museum and The Bathhouse Caf will be closed to the public until midday on Monday (19 August).
