Thousands of people turned out for Rotorua District Council's Luminite lantern and lights trail in Government Gardens on Friday evening (26 July), far exceeding organisers' expectations.
A calm, fine winter's evening meant residents and many visitors to town were able to wander along the sparkling lights trail made up of hundreds of lanterns, while enjoying live entertainment, interactive activities and food stalls. The innovative and colorful lanterns had been created by local people at workshops coordinated by Rotorua District Council's Major & Community Events team.
The evening ended with a bang supplied by a spectacular fireworks display over the city.
Luminite was the final event of Fire & Ice - Rotorua's Winter Festival.
