SH33 Sunvalley Curve Alignment project update
15 July 2013
The SH33 Sunvalley curve alignment project between Rotorua and Paengaroa will see tight curves removed to improve safety and provide a passing lane towards Rotorua.
Currently the new alignment is taking shape, with significant earthworks nearing completion on Pareteiro Hill. The construction of a large earth retaining wall has also commenced, along with widening of the existing highway.
However works are very dependent on winter weather and wet soil conditions.
Over the next month and onwards the wall will continue to increase in height at the north end of the project, and a speed restriction is expected during July and August as heavy machinery moves materials around the site.
As spring approaches more earthworks and construction of the new road pavement will start.
The project is expected to run until mid-2014.
