Lake Road officially reopened following major upgrade and four-laning

Mayor Kevin Winters hosted a blessing ceremony at the recently constructed roundabout on Lake Road yesterday morning (25 June), to acknowledge completion of the Lake Road upgrade and four-laning programme.
The $14 million, 20 month project will substantially improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, and reduce traffic congestion. It has doubled the road's previous capacity which is now rated to handle up to 50,000 vehicles a day
Rotorua District Council elected members, staff, contractors and business people from the vicinity gathered on Lake Road for the blessing, which was conducted by Reverend Tom Poata.
Only minor completion work on berms and landscaping remains to be completed.
