Lake Road 4-laning nearly complete
The Lake Road upgrade is nearly complete and the end in sight. However drivers are being reminded they still need to take caution and continue to follow signs and directions throughout the Lake Road construction site.
Over the next few weeks, as weather allows, footpaths and driveways will be completed, the final pavement sealing will get underway and ancillary work such as lighting, signage, pavement marking and landscaping will take place.
Once power is connected traffic lights will become operational, however the road will remain restricted to one lane in each direction for a period of time.
The upgrade design includes share with care' paths for both pedestrians and cyclists. Now RDC has received agreement from KiwiRail the last 1km of the cycleway between the city and Ngongotaha can be completed and will link up with Lake Road.
When the project is finished Lake Road is expected to carry over 23,000 vehicles per day.
