Airport public meeting for Rotorua residents’ input
12 June 2013
Members of the public will have an opportunity to provide input into Rotorua International Airport's business strategy through a public meeting at the Rotorua Convention Centre on Wednesday June 19.
The Rotorua International Airport is currently in the process of developing a business strategy, which will set the direction for the airport for the next five years.
Airport CEO, Alastair Rhodes, will present an overview of the key aspects of the strategy, which is focused on creating growth at the Airport and making an even greater contribution to Rotorua and the wider Bay of Plenty region.
Since I started in my role as CEO at the end of April, my key priority has been the development of the Airport's business plan, defining the objectives we seek to achieve in the next 12 months through to the next five years, and developing an implementation plan to ensure that we achieve these, says Mr Rhodes.
"For the Airport to grow and succeed, it's critical that we have the support of Rotorua and wider Bay of Plenty communities, not only for the benefit of the tourism industry and the airport, but also for the wider community and the local economy.
"As such, we are keen to get input and feedback from members of the public and wider Airport users as we progress the strategy to its final stages."
Mr Rhodes expects to have a draft business plan for presentation to the Airport board at the end of June, with a final strategy in place in August.
He says he has been working closely with a range of different stakeholders in relation to the development of the strategy - and also to identify and maximise key opportunities for growth for Rotorua and the region.
"This has included working with Destination Rotorua Marketing and Grow Rotorua, and both organisations will provide a short presentation at the public meeting on June 19.
A key aspect is to ensure a change in the perception of Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty as a destination, and we will all need to work closely together in order to achieve this."
The public meeting will be held from 6pm till 7pm on Wednesday, June 19 at the Rotorua Convention Centre. It will include an opportunity for questions and feedback.
Those interested in the public meeting are asked to register their attendance by Tuesday, June 18 via email to talk2us@rotorua-airport.co.nz
