More than 700 entries in new ‘Good Health Rotorua’ directory
The 2013 edition of Good Health Rotorua - a directory of health and wellbeing services in Rotorua district - has been published with more than 700 entries featured in the new 2013 edition.
This directory is the fifteenth edition produced by Rotorua District Council's (RDC) Policy and Resources team, with assistance from the Citizens Advice Bureau and their volunteers.
RDC policy and research officer Caroline Matangi said Good Health Rotorua had become one of the most highly regarded and frequently used community directories in the district.
This year's edition includes a range of long-standing health and wellbeing services available in Rotorua, as well as a number of new services on offer, Ms Matangi said.
It's an invaluable resource for locating information on health services and providers, health support groups, counselling, parenting programmes, advocacy services, and much more.
Ms Matangi said the online version of the directory enabled service providers, health and social work students and other residents to either print out just the chapters they need, or to access the entire document as required.
Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) coordinator Jane Eynon-Richards, said the directory was relied on by many of the organisations who feature in the publication.
The directory provides comprehensive community and health information from advocates, medical support groups, mental health providers, general practitioners and medical specialists along with support and assistance available for families, children and older people. It also includes pharmacies, dentists, Maori health initiatives, fitness providers and a chapter on Rotorua Hospital.
This year a chapter called Resourcing the Community' has been extended to include contacts for various community gardens operating around Rotorua.
Rotorua's Budget Advisory Service finds the Good Health Directory very useful, particularly its list of other social services and up-to-date contacts and information on NGOs (non-government organisations).
We regularly use the list for referring our CAB clients on to specialist and expert social services across the Rotorua community, said Ms Eynon-Richards.
Copies of the directory are held at the District Library or can be purchased from the council's Customer Centre or Citizens Advice Bureau at $12 a copy. The directory can also be downloaded free of charge from the council website rdc.govt.nz [under Our City / Community Development / Related Pages].
