Rotorua Museum re-launches art awards with $15,000 prizepool
Rotorua Museum is excited to re-launch the Rotorua Museum Art Awards after almost 10 years.
And this year's awards offer its largest prize pool ever, with $15,000 in prizes up for grabs.
The awards are open to any current resident of the Bay of Plenty and are for artists working in any medium, except moving image.
Rotorua Museum Director, Stewart Brown, said it has been nearly 10 years since the last art awards took place, however getting them re-established has been one of his priorities since taking on the role last year.
"I'm sure local and regional artists will take the opportunity to showcase their skills and be in to win from the $15,000 prizepool. I want the awards to inspire local artists and highlight the wealth of talent we have here in the Bay of Plenty region."
The awards are sponsored by Rotorua Trust and Waimangu Volcanic Valley, in association with Friends of Rotorua Museum.
Three awards will be presented: The Rotorua Museum Supreme Award with a prize of $10,000, the Waimangu Volcanic Valley Sustainable Art Award with a prize of $4,000, and the Rotorua Museum Emerging Artist Award with a prize of $1,000.
Winners will be announced at an awards night on Friday 9 August. Selected finalist entries will be on display at Rotorua Museum from 10 August until 20 October 2013.
Entries close Monday 1 July at 5pm.
