Anzac Day events in Rotorua
24 April 2013
Service & Parades
Rotorua will commemorate the 98th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings by New Zealand and Australian combined military forces with a number of special events.
The Anzac Day Civic Memorial Service will be at the Rotorua Convention Centre at 9.30am on Thursday 25 April.
The day's events start with the dawn parade at Ohinemutu at 5.45am.
This will be followed by a parade of service personnel, school parties, cadet corps and local community groups, who will assemble at 8.50am at the Rotorua Lakefront at the intersection of Whakaue and Fenton streets.
The parade will then march via Government Gardens before arriving at the Convention Centre at 9.20am in time for the 9.30am service.
Rotorua Museum
Following the dawn parade, Rotorua Museum will open early from 8am. Visitors can go along to reflect on and commemorate all the men and women who have served their country, showing courage, ingenuity and loyalty.
Take the time to remember those whose lives have been lost by writing a message on a poppy. These poppies can be added to the museum's Anzac Day remembrance displays in various places around the Museum.
Throughout the day volunteer guides will bring to life some of the legendary exploits of B Company 28th Maori Battalion, as well as stories from Taking the Cure where many World War I soldiers convalesced in our Bath House building after their war efforts.
Don't miss the moving 28th Maori Battalion film which runs every 30 minutes. The Bathhouse Caf will also be open early from 8am for breakfast.
Rotorua Night Market
Rotorua Night Market will trade on Anzac Day, opening at the earlier time of 1.30pm.
