Rotorua International Airport chief executive Alastair Rhodes.
A senior Air New Zealand manager has been appointed as the Rotorua International Airport's new Chief Executive Officer.
Alastair Rhodes is currently the airline's Direct Ancillary Revenue Manager. He will take up his new role at Rotorua International Airport on March 25.
Mr Rhodes has an extensive commercial and strategic background, including senior roles at Air New Zealand, Freedom Air and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd, an international business consulting company. Mr Rhodes also established and managed a successful international surf hardware design and production company.
Rotorua International Airport chairman, Ray Cook, says Mr Rhodes' appointment comes after a rigorous selection process, with more than 70 applications received for the role.
"The role of Airport CEO is a critical one both for the successful operation of the Airport itself, and also for the local community and business sector, particularly the tourism industry.
"It is a complex role, requiring engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders, including Government agencies, local councils, iwi, residents, business people, tourism groups, airlines, visitors and many more.
"Alastair brings extensive airline, commercial and management experience to the role, including strong existing stakeholder relationships. These will be a critical factor as the Airport operation matures and moves into a new phase of development."
Mr Rhodes says he is delighted to have been appointed to the role and is looking forward to moving with his family to Rotorua.
"The role of Rotorua International Airport CEO is an exciting and challenging one.
"The Airport has clearly seen extensive growth and development in recent years. I am looking forward to taking the Airport - and its community with it - into a new phase of development that contributes to the region's growth."
