17 February 2013
Rotorua school children will continue to be able to visit Rotorua Museum for free this year on a bus funded by the Ngāti Whakaue Education Endowment Trust Board.
The trust board has confirmed that it will fund the Museum Bus for a fourth year providing free transport to the museum for all Decile 1 to 5 schools in the Rotorua region.
Rotorua Museum's Head of Education, Emma Liley, said she is delighted by the news and expects over 4,000 students to use the free bus this year.
while the Museum is already free for Rotorua residents, the transport costs can often be expensive and prevent many schools enjoying learning experiences outside the classroom.
Since funding for the bus was first granted in term two 2010, nearly 14,000 Rotorua students from 26 local primary, intermediate and secondary schools have taken advantage of the free bus. The Museum Bus is provided by Ritchies Transport.
