Chief executive collects rubbish bags
25 January 2013
Rotorua District Council chief executive Peter Guerin likes to keep in touch with the frontline of council operations and regularly gets out and works with council teams.
This week he spent the day on one of the council's refuse trucks, helping staff members pick up rubbish bags from around Rotorua streets.
Mr Guerin said the refuse collectors do a great job and help keep our city looking clean and tidy, often having to put up with difficult weather conditions and regularly face risks from unwrapped, sharp objects that people put in their rubbish bags.
It's been good for me to share some work time with these guys and get some firsthand experience of what the job involves, said Mr Guerin.
