Locals are encouraged to check out the following exhibitions at Rotorua Museum this week [Monday 21 to Sunday 27 January].
Off the Wall: World of WearableArt Up Close
For the first time in more than a decade World Of WearableArt (WOW) is touring a selection of the very best costumes from its historic collection, in the exhibition Off the Wall: World of WearableArt Up Close.
All garments are displayed so that visitors can get up close to view the incredible detail and workmanship in these amazing costumes.
Selecting the 30 garments was a collaborative process between WOW founder Suzie Moncrieff and Sir Richard Taylor from Weta Workshop.
In Off the Wall you'll see anything from 20,664 plastic collar stays to twelve leather suitcases, from recycled wool sacks to wood, corrugated iron to kitchen utensils, taxidermied birds to sumptuous silks, says Mrs Moncreith.
La Mode
In times of great change, fashion can act as a barometer that reflects world events and even cultural shifts.
This exhibition of exquisitely rendered fashion plates, from the Dunedin Public Art Gallery collection, depicts modes of dress during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The styles were linked not only to the French Revolution, but also associated with the romantic Regency period in Britain.
Woollaston 101
Regarded as one of the founders of 20th century modern painting in New Zealand, this exhibition shows 101 Toss Woollaston (1910-1998) works.
Woollaston 101 is a comprehensive representation of Woollaston's mind at work and is distinguished by its focus on portraiture and figure studies.
Caf Art: Eternal Blues by Fabiola Barba
