Popular parks manager farewelled after 40 years
20 December 2012
Rotorua District Council is farewelling its popular and respected Parks Operations manager Walter Miller this week [Friday 21 December] who is retiring after 40 years of outstanding service to the council and the Rotorua community.
Earlier in the year Walter won the Rotorua Employee of the Year award in the 2012 Westpac Rotorua Business Excellence Awards, and more recently was awarded the Ian Galloway Memorial Cup at the New Zealand Recreation Association's annual conference and awards event. This prestigious trophy recognises excellence and outstanding personal contribution to the wider parks industry.
Walter's contribution to the city's beautification has been described as immense. He has been responsible for planning Rotorua's highly regarded flower bed displays throughout the city, which have played a big part in Rotorua winning the New Zealand's Best City title a record six times.
Rotorua's reputation as a beautiful garden city is a legacy he leaves behind. The council thanks him for his contribution and wishes him well in his retirement.
