Community Christmas Tree and Santa Bear collection at Rotorua Museum
Wednesday 5 December 2012
Christmas is truly the season for giving, and this year Rotorua Museum invites the local community to do just that.
The Rotorua Museum Community Christmas Tree, sponsored by Farmers, is now in the Museum foyer ready to receive your donated gifts for Waiariki Women's Refuge.
Families, individuals and companies can bring their wrapped gifts and place them under the tree, along with a gift tag indicating whether the gift is for a mother or child, and if for a child, the gender and suitable age range.
Donated gifts will be delivered to Waiariki Women's Refuge just before Christmas to be shared out to families in need.
Miriama Roberts, manager for Waiariki Women's Refuge, says: The gifts will bring a ray of sunshine into their lives and will help them to at least forget the events that brought them into refuge care.
Situated in the mezzanine level of Rotorua Museum, visitors can also see one of the few complete sets of Farmers Santa Bears. It has been 25 years since the department store Farmers first introduced their collectable Santa Bear range. Local enthusiast, Wendy Hurran, has been collecting Santa Bears since 1995 when she was given two as a gift. Opening 3 December 2012, this Collector in the Community exhibition will be on display until 4 January 2013.
The festive season continues with the Rotorua District Choir entertaining visitors with a special Christmas performance of Carols at Rotorua Museum on Sunday 16 December at 7pm.
Visitors attending Carols with the Rotorua District Choir will be given the entry option of gold coin donation or by donating a gift to the Rotorua Museum Community Christmas Tree.
