'Rotorua Glo Festival' to lead New Year celebrations
18 December 2015
Rotorua Glo Festival' is the new name of a three-day event to celebrate the New Year in Rotorua.
The traditional single Lakefront concert event has been replaced with a three day celebration which will include street theatre, a massive market; family show in the park, street party, spectacular fireworks over the lake, and a morning brunch with entertainment to welcome in the New Year.
Rotorua District Council events manager Martin Croft said the festival has been put together with the family in mind, offering a range of activities which bring visitors and the local community together to celebrate the end of 2012 and welcome in 2013.
The event's new name of Glo Festival' has been chosen as a good fit with many aspects of the celebrations, especially their new theme. We certainly expect Rotorua to be glowing' with pride as the city celebrates what's been achieved during the outgoing year and looks forward to the year ahead.
Rotorua's leading people, businesses and tourist attractions will be highlighted throughout the three days of Rotorua Glo Festival and upcoming events, like the inaugural Rotorua Bike Festival, Te Matatini and World Rafting Champs, will be showcased on the final day of the event.
Mr Croft said with more activities being added to the programme each week, organisers believe the event will grow into one of New Zealand's must do' family events.
We want there to be so much to do people will want to come back next year in order to do everything.
One of the highlights for the festival will be a major fireworks display. While there will now be fireworks earlier in the evening on New Year's Eve, the main pyrotechnics display at midnight will be the biggest Rotorua has ever seen.
So Rotorua will definitely Glo' this coming New Year and we look forward to reinforcing our city's reputation as one of the best places in New Zealand to see in the New Year with the family.
